In the 1851 census, Charles was 82, and living with his wife, Jenny then 76,
his son from his first marriage, Stephen, and Stephen's four daughters.
His first marriage was to Mary Ploughman on October 28th 1799. This is recorded in the Bishop's Transcripts for Broughton Hants thus: 26 October 1799. Charles Judd and Mary Ploughman[sic] both of this parish. Licence.
Mary bore him a son Stephen, possibly in the August of 1800, which was when she died.
His second marriage was at Houghton Hants, on May 31st 1801.
Charles describes himself as a widower, and married Elizabeth Cooper
Spinster by Licence.
He married his third wife Jenny Tubb at Eling Hants, and had another 4
children. He is described as a labourer.
Charles died aged 83, of "Natural Decay" on the eighth of April 1852,
at Broughton. Hants.
His son Henry [William Henry] was present at his death,and registered
the same by making a x as his mark
Although he had been married 3 times, he appeared to have been widowed on two occasions as the result of childbirth tragedy.
Elizabeth Cooper was born in 1775, her father James Cooper was from Stockbridge in Hants.
The family were "kin" to Frances wife of John West a clothier and benefactor from London.
Elizabeth Cooper's Brother William drew a Pension from the Charities of John and Frances West.
Elizabeth was twenty five when she met the widowed Charles Judd.
Charles had been married just over a year, when his first wife Mary, [nee Plowman] died in childbirth.
Elizabeth Cooper and Charles Judd married at Houghton Hants.
on May 31st. 1801.
Elizabeth died aged 35, in March 1810. Possibly bore an illigitimate child, no father recorded: Mary Anne who was buried on November 26 1802.
