Charles appears on the 1851 census, as the eldest child of Christopher and Betsy Judd living at Emery Down in the New Forest.

He was a 10 year old scholar,whose birth place was recorded as Eling Hants.

In the 1881 census Charles is shown living with his wife, Julia Hannah at Curdridge Common, the fourth cottage from one called "Rose Cottage".

The household also included Edith Emma Peachy, a niece and Mary Stubbs, an 82 year old lodger.

Charles worked as a jobbing gardener and would seem to have died, at his place of work, a house called Hillside at Botley, on April 22nd.1916.
