Eliza was born at Millbrook, Southampton, on March 25th 1845.

She was the second child, and daughter of George Eastman, and his wife,

Mary Ann, formerly Hunt.

Her father registered her Birth just over two weeks later, giving his

occupation as a labourer, and his place of residence as Cox Ford.

Eliza appears to have born a great affection for her elder sister,Frances.

When Eliza was twenty, she gave this sister a tiny book with gold

leaf page edgings.

It was titled "The Faithful Promiser" and contained a religious meditation for

each day of the month.

Eliza inscribed the flyleaf " Frances M. A. Eastman.

Given to her by her Only Sister on her 23rd. Birthday September 14th.1865."
